Between Little Rock and Memphis

I expect to be in Maryville on Sunday, allowing a day in Memphis and a day in Nashville.

I'm getting used to travelling, and the trip has been very enjoyable. It's really neat to be able to plug into the internet while in one's car at a truck stop...and the conveniences at the better motels make it easy to relax at night. Flying J Travel Centers have great restaurants. The food is better than anything I've had in a long, long time. Americans sure know how to eat!!

Yet another view...The wall in the center has the time 9:03 on it. At the other end to the site and facing inward is a similar wall with the time 9:01 on it.

Another view of the memorial site...

At the national memorial in Okla Cty. The destroyed bldg used to be on the right, now occupied by symbolic empty chairs.

I am standing on the double x's and aiming the camera at the square window (the sniper window) at the corner of the bldg one storey down from the roof. The book warehouse is now a museum, and the arrangement of the boxes at the window to support a rifle line up exactly with the sight of the camera.

On the road you'll see x's where Kennedy was struck..

At a Flying J 10mi west of Okla City on I40

I drove through Dallas today stopping at the site where Kennedy was shot. Later I went up Hwy 35 to Okla City, and visited the memorial of the bombing there. I have some interesting photos from both sites, which I will post later. I'm making this note now because I don't have a night spot figured out yet. It looks like Little Rock tomorrow.

Spending the night at Holiday Inn Express outside Ft Worth TX

The landscape from Amarillo to here is very much like Saskatchewan...wide open prairie land. I didn't use the camera today. Next stop Dallas to see the place Kennedy got shot, and then on to Oklahoma City.
I'm not decided yet where I'll be tomorrow night.

Spending the night in Amarillo TX at a Best Western

Well I've crossed the continental divide, and have arrived in Texas. The next stop will be in the Dallas area. I had a very enjoyable drive down Hwy 104 today. There's virtually no traffic on the road, and much of the land seemed almost prairie like. The spider traffic was heavier than the vehicle traffic!

One of many seen crossing Hwy 104. This is the second one I saw after being surprised by the first...no traffic, so I stopped, ran back, and got a photo...the body is about the size of one sunglass lens.

First cactus I've spotted so far...this along Hwy 104

Horse back riding and Pueblo ruins

I've stopped the night at Grants, NM, just west of Albuquerque on Hwy 40. When I get some rest, I'll post a few photos from the hundreds I've taken. Colorado scenery is simply spectacular. There was snow on top of Grand Mesa, and that's where I went for an hour's horseback riding. This morning I toured the cliff palace at Mesa Verde. I drove down rte 491 through the Navajo Nation territory. Did they ever get ripped!

At a Best Western in Grand Junction, Co

A good place to do laundry, and now the chain has wireless. I feel right at home here. I have to repeat, hwy 139 is some road! It goes up and down a mountain with no shoulder to speak of with hair pin turns that must have been created in Hollywood. Grades of 10 percent add excitement to the ride. I'll head down south from here through Delta, Montrose, then head east from Shiprock along hwy 64.

The weather is getting hotter.

I left the highway to look at the exhibit well in the background. The animal was a complete surprise.

Another photo in a series...

on Hwy 139. Further along, the highway becomes down right scary. I had to settle for easy shots like this.

At Wells, Nevada...posted from a Flying J truck stop

Hwy 93 is a very scenic drive. The mountain in the last photo is just the beginning of a very rugged terrain. Nevada is definitely the land of casinos and cowboy hats. Well I'm heading for SLC today and am thinking of driving down hwy 191 later on.

South bound for Nevada. Beautiful day.

Southbound on Hwy 93, some flat areas.

Another view of Snake River Canyon. There's a golf course down there.

Just south of intersection hwy84 and hwy 93 is this view of the Snake River Canyon

2nd Wi-Fi connection made...from Flying J

I'm at a truck stop called The Flying J near Twin Falls, Idaho. I just drove into the parking lot and knowing that the connection is beamed over the whole area including the parking lot, I connected while in my car. Fortunately I picked up a 300 watt inverter before leaving Vancouver, so when the laptop shut down for lack of power, I plugged it into the cigarette lighter outlet thru the inverter. I had to run the car engine for it to operate. So, the last series of photos were taken this morning about six or seven hours ago. Hope you enjoy them.

Jeff -- I'm getting "undeliverable" msgs

Jeff, I'm getting emails sent to you returned. I'm not sure why that is. If you see this please try to send me one. Brian

On Wi-Fi for the first time on the road

I'm in a McDonald's in Boise, Idaho, where I've just posted the last 3 photos. I got some more photos along the hwy this morning which I'll post at the next hot-stop I find. I would have brought my camera into McDonald's to transfer the photos, but I wasn't sure how the hook-up would go. Maybe next stop, I'll post photos that are just a few hours old.
